Narrabri Region Educational Experiences

Curriculum-linked school excursions across the Narrabri Region, featuring astronomy, agriculture, nature, history & culture and hands-on learning experiences.

The Narrabri Region offers diverse curriculum-linked learning experiences across science, agriculture, nature, culture and heritage. Students can explore Australia's agricultural industry firsthand, engage with leading research and innovation facilities, discover Aboriginal culture, and connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

Home to the six-dish Australia Telescope Compact Array, the region provides unique STEM learning opportunities through one of Australia's premier radio astronomy facilities. Narrabri is also a nationally recognised centre for agricultural research, with organisations including the Australian Cotton Research Institute (ACRI), Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC), Cotton Seed Distributors (CSD), and the University of Sydney Narrabri Farms Network, where students can learn about plant breeding, agronomy, digital agriculture, sustainability and the future of food production.

School groups can also explore Mount Kaputar National Park, one of Australia's most unique natural learning environments. Rising to 1,510 metres above sea level, the park offers vehicle access to the summit, allowing students to experience spectacular panoramic views and accessible nature walks. The park is internationally significant for its unique flora and fauna, including species that occur nowhere else in the world, making it an exceptional outdoor classroom for studying biodiversity, evolution, adaptation and conservation.

School groups can explore the Pilliga Forest, one of inland Australia's largest semi-arid woodland ecosystems and an important centre for wildlife conservation. Through the work of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy students can learn about threatened species recovery, habitat restoration, biodiversity monitoring and modern conservation practices. This living classroom provides unique opportunities to connect environmental science studies with real-world conservation outcomes.

The Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre can assist teachers and excursion coordinators with itinerary planning, accommodation recommendations, local contacts and visitor information to help create memorable and enriching educational excursions.
